  Chapter One

  ***Kray***

Music’s blasting, people are shouting and drinking while I’m wondering what the fuck I’m doing here. Right. A job. Me and North are waiting for some dude to come and fill us in about a case so we can decide if we’re going to take it or not.

The only information we received when they placed a request to meet were a handful of details. Something about locating a person who’s fallen off grid, taken off grid, whatever. Well, to be more specific, a secret agent is missing and the government thinks a kidnapping or foul play is involved. We’re supposed to meet our contact here in this middle of nowhere bar located in some hillbilly town.

Yeah, it’s the main reason why me and North are here; on a job. Though the whole setting of this bar while North strolls up to me—holding beer and handing me one—makes my mind wander back to the time North and I met.

Fucking crazy and yet the perfect timing the way it all fell together that night about twelve years ago. Me backing him up, him backing me up...all while the both of us faced our ex. Which happened to be the same damn woman. Imagine our surprise when we realized we shared the same damn ex and how she fooled not one, but the both of us.

I had a relationship with that woman for almost three weeks before I found out she was cheating on me. I dumped her that night and it was the reason I went to the bar for some booze and to wallow in self-pity. Turns out North dumped her before she put her hooks into me. Bottom line? We both dodged a bullet twelve damn years ago.

Fuck. How time flies and if it wasn’t for our ex, the two of us would have never met. Since that day not much has changed between North and I. After we ran into our ex twelve years ago in that bar, we met a random chick who took the both of us back to her house. It was the first time North and I shared a woman. Good times.

Though, I don’t remember the nameless chick because the most memorable part of that night was after we left her apartment. North and I spent hours talking over coffee and pie before the both of us reported for duty early morning where we were placed in the same unit. The unit where we met Deeds, who is now our Prez. Both me and North are members of Broken Deeds MC.

Broken Deeds MC takes on cases the government can’t—or won’t—handle. Most times we take on a case ourselves and let justice prevail a whole different way, and occasionally...like now...the government contacts us and requests a meeting.

Some chick leaning against the bar tries hard to flirt with North. The corner of my mouth twitches. Wrong guy to make a play for, chick. North doesn’t like the straightforward ones. Now if she would hit on me first...she might stand a chance.

We have a system ‘cause let’s be honest, you can’t throw two guys at a chick, add a splash of lube and have some fun. It takes a little more effort to set things up the right way. Hell, maybe we’ve become too picky, who knows.

Years came and went, as did the nameless women we shared. Though one thing stayed the same; coffee and pie afterwards. Exactly what we did the first night we met after we hightailed out of the chick’s apartment since she was a clingy, sneaky bitch.

That night I set a rule in place; no kissing. North followed me on this one so the both of us don’t use our mouths. Kissing is personal, at least for me it is, and what we’re doing when we fuck is far from personal; it’s all about getting off and demanding all the pleasure we can take in that single moment.

The chick tried two times to put her mouth against mine when I was very direct about no kissing. It’s about respecting boundaries; not heeding them is disrespectful and gets you nothing ‘cause we turn our backs as easily as sliding our cocks into the next cunt or ass who does honor the boundaries we have in place.

Hence the reason we grade to somewhat reconcile and set more rules in place for the next time. We don’t do the whole discuss details and shit. Nope, we just eat pie at a different place each time after we tag team a chick and give the pie a grade and the chick along with it. Don’t judge, the whole world thrives on systems, and this is our thing.

Maybe it’s because in the back of our minds we still need something to compare. To aim higher next time, since the both of us were conned by the same ex. Me and North swore we wouldn’t allow shit like that to happen to either of us again. It’s like sampling the goods together before we can settle on the one and only who goes against the grain.

Do we see our future sharing one woman? No one knows what the future might entail, though we’ve talked about it countless times. But with the grading system in
place...there hasn’t been a woman who scored higher than a seven plus. Sad, but fuckin’ true.

And to be honest? The adventures me and North have been on all these damn years? I guess we’re both man enough to admit when the right woman comes along—our lucky number ten plus—sharing won’t be involved. Blame it on our own brand of possessive, asshole ways, but I guess we don’t have to find out any time soon.

Because, after all these years we never ran into a ten plus or any chick coming near it. So, neither of us believe our lucky number is out there. Let alone two of them. Besides...the both of us came to realize we might fall for the same woman at first sight, but it’s what on the inside that makes all the difference.

North has a very strong personality and rebukes the same quality in a woman. Where I however tend to enjoy a sharp mouth and a head on collision. I’m not one to fall for a shy and timid flower; that’s North. See what I’m getting at? It’s also the reason North and I work well together, we’re the same and yet different. The kind of counterparts who run like a well-oiled machine.

One look and the both of us know exactly what to do or how to handle shit. We teamed up twelve years ago, fought for our country, became brothers, and never spent a day apart since we met. One day might come when we’re old and gray, hitting on the same nurse in the nursing home until one of us releases our last breath.

Fuck...the way we’ve been living? We might expel the same last breath together. The mere thought makes the corner of my lips twitch as I glance to my left to see my brother, North, stare in front of him, the beer in his hand is long forgotten as his mouth drops open.

I’m being ripped from the trip down memory lane inside my head as I let my gaze travel North’s line of sight until my eyes meet... “Ten plus,” I croak.

“Ten. Fucking. Plus. Just by looks only,” North croaks right along with me.

Godfuckin’ dammit, this shit can’t be happening. Someone must be yanking our chain ‘cause as I was just sayin’ to myself...in all those years we never got higher than a fuckin’ seven plus.

I groan as realization sets in. “You know we’re screwed, and not in a good way, if this lady turns out to be our contact person, right?”

“Aw, fuck. Now you damned well jinxed it, asshole,” North sighs and rubs a hand over his face. “I guess you’re right ‘cause she’s heading straight for us. Dammit, Kray, a ten fuckin’ plus, but we can’t touch government goods.”

“No, we can’t,” I growl through clenched teeth, annoyed to deep down in the darkest pits of my soul by this little fact.

Rich, chocolate brown hair standing on end as if she put her fingers into a socket and faced damn electricity and lived to tell about it. The way her fierce green eyes are sliding over me heats my blood near boiling point. A surge of jealousy hits when her gaze slides to North before they land back on me.

“I’m your contact, let’s go,” she snaps and is about to spin on her heels.

I would grab her by the elbow but with her whole vibe radiating ‘don’t fuck with me’, I decide my words will have to do. “We’re not going anywhere with you.” The snap in my voice is just as harsh as hers was and I lazily take a sip of my beer when her gaze finds mine again.

They bounce to North but I’m sure the fucker is smirking and by the way she narrows her eyes at him and slides back to mine, I know for damn sure he is. I’m the one who addressed her and this means North will let me handle the first part of our communication.

She steps closer to me and pokes a finger against the patch on my leather cut. “A request for a meeting was made. This tells me you’re the one I’m looking for. Follow me out of this damn crowded bar so we can discuss the case.” Her pixie head tips slightly to the side. “Unless I’m supposed to meet another Broken Deeds MC member but seeing you two are the only ones here...I’m guessing you’re either stalling, sexist, or a lazy bastard who doesn’t care two shits about a job he needs to do.”

I have her by the throat with my next breath and my third breath is kinda hard to do with her grabbing my balls in a tight grip.

I’ve been through much worse and though it takes everything in me to keep upright and voice shit normally as I hiss, “You shouldn’t guess or run your mouth for that matter.”

“Now, now, kids...play nice and let’s get out of here ‘cause the two of you are drawing enough attention we don’t need,” North chuckles.

Fucker. I should tell her to grab him by the balls ‘cause, damn this woman’s grip is making my cock rock-fucking-hard. Twisted, I know. And the way her eyes go wide as her hand slightly shifts...yeah, she feels me growing hard in her damn grip alright. She instantly lets go and steps back, causing my hand to drop as well.

“Vienna,” a harsh voice from behind her snaps. “You’re not supposed to be here.”

Her eyes are still holding mine when she easily replies, “I sure as fuck am, because I’m not letting anyone else jeopardize her safety, Wyman. I need to be involved.”

“What you need is to sit this one out, agent,” Wyman tells her in a condescending tone, instantly putting me on edge.

North smacks a flat hand against my chest to hold me in place. The fucker knows me well ‘cause I for sure as shit was ready to rip him a new asshole. Even with this woman’s potty mouth, this asshole should show her some respect. Well, in front of me he needs to, since I obviously don’t know her or the situation at hand. Fuck. Good thing North always has my back considering the rage pumping through my veins.

“All right, folks, out,” North states and pushes away from the bar.

I instantly follow him out and mentally smack myself on the head for letting a woman put me on edge. Even if she’s a fuckin’ ten plus, we’re on a job and I’d never fail Broken Deeds MC.

We didn’t accept the job yet, though. Deeds sent us to be debriefed. Normally we aren’t picky but we don’t work for, or listen to anybody. We are our own boss but we do get the job done and the government knows it ‘cause we’re kinda like their dirty little secret. Hence the reason we are above the law and can use any means necessary to let justice prevail.

Also, the reason why I don’t glance over my shoulder to see if they follow us out. Hard thing to do ‘cause the woman occupies my damn thoughts. I straddle my bike and place my forearms on the gas tank, letting my eyes trail the crowded parking lot.

The two agents are arguing in front of the bar, too far away for us to hear what the fuss is about but with the shit the guy mentioned inside, it’s not so hard to guess. She’s not supposed to be on the case and yet she’s here acting like the contact person. It’s intriguing to say the least.

“Wonder why she was pulled off the case or if she was even assigned to it. Shame she has quite the mouth on her, for me it brings her down to an eight plus. Though, it could change if we tested the merchandise,” North chuckles and I damn well know it’s the same shit we’ve thrown back and forth for the last twelve years but now it hits a nerve.

“Then I guess you don’t have to bother to test the merch. The both of us are very aware you don’t like the ones with a feisty mouth. Besides, she’s linked to a possible case. We don’t dip our cocks into club business,” I snap.

North’s head rears slightly back as the annoying man assesses me. “Okay, problem solved then, huh?”

  “Yep,” I snap.

Annoying to see the guy shoving Vienna against her shoulder but the next instant both me and North bark out a laugh when she grabs his wrist, turns his arm so the fucker is now kneeling before her as she growls something at him.

Vienna stalks toward us but the guy recovers fast and catches up to her as she reaches us. He’s about to grab her shoulder but Vienna spins around, ready to lash out again. I jump off my bike and manage to snatch her up and lock her in my arms with her back plastered tight against my front.

North is in front of us the next instant, growling at the guy, “You’d better start explaining real damn fucking fast, asshole.”

  “Lockbaks
y shouldn’t be here. We’re not discussing this case as long as she’s present,” Mr. Asshole easily supplies with a tone as if he holds all the authority and the fucker has any say in this shit.

Like in the bar how I spoke first and handled it, North is now the one stepping up, which entails me and the little firecracker in my arms to remain silent. The way she’s huffing and struggling lets me know she’s close to interfering. I can’t have her interrupting North. My brother might dislike a mouth on a chick, but what he absolutely hates is to be interrupted by one while he’s handling something.

I lean in close right next to her ear and make sure my words are only to be heard by her alone. “Calm down and let my brother handle this or you’ll lose your chance to be heard.”

She instantly goes slack. Unlike my cock I might add.

“You will tell us why you brought us here this damn instant, whether she’s present or not, or we will walk away. Understood?” North snaps.

The guy is silent for a few breaths before he fires out his words. “One of our agents, Reva Lockbaksy, was on a job when she didn’t return to her office after a coffee break. It’s been ten days and we haven’t been able to discover where she is or who has her.”

“Because there’s a rat in the damn agency,” Vienna huffs underneath her breath, allowing only me to catch her words.

Not to mention it didn’t escape me how the guy mentioned Lockbaksy. And the way this woman in my arms is going against the grain can only mean one thing. “Your sister?” I ask on a whisper.

“Yeah.” The one word leaves her lips as if it carries the weight of a thousand worlds along with it.

I let my arms fall away and say, “We’re taking the case, but Vienna’s going to be our contact or we’re not taking it at all. Understood?”

I can tell by the slight shift in North’s shoulder he’s surprised by my statement. But as I’ve mentioned before; we always have each other’s back, no matter what. The agent before him however starts to sputter.

North raises his hand, palm up. “You heard my brother, we’re done here. Anything we need to know can be asked through this Lockbaksy standing behind me. It’s the reason she’s not allowed to be on the case, right? Same name, your reaction...they’re related. In my opinion people have a strong drive to be motivated in getting a job done. However, it does cloud the vision a bit, but we’re here to make sure all eyes are wide fuckin’ open and on the task at hand.”
